BSA 227 – First Blog

On the first few Sessions of visual effects, we watched a couple of Videos, so we can get an idea of what is possible and what we can do with visual effects (e.g. Robot and Scarecrow, Jonah)

Robot and Scarecrow:

This short film is the first one of two we saw that day. It takes plays at a little festival where one of the big stars is a singing woman robot. It seems that everybody wants to see her, even a scarecrow a little bit down the road on a field. He gets alive and went to this festival. When the Robot sees the scarecrow dancing and then getting hurt, see ran away and helps the scarecrow. She rebuilt him and they are having a great day at the festival. At the end of the day she runs out of battery and so she died. The scarecrow is very sad about that and back to his field with a little difference.

Review: The effects are amazing in this Short film; it’s astounding how the scarecrow and the robot are coming alive. And the story is also well written and gives the viewer a little bad taste in the end.

Jonah:

Jonah is about two boys, living in poor. After they steal a camera and makes a few Pictures, they get famous and rich, because the captured a very big fish on a Photo. After that the whole Town is chancing and everybody wants to see the fish. After a few years in Fame, the friends detach from each other. When both got old one of them sees the fish again and tries to capture him. But instead it gets kind of weird, because everything is getting reversed and at the end the fish eats him.

Review: In this short film, are not just the characters CGI, almost the whole world is not real and created on the computer. Its amazing how realistic it looks like, and what you can do with CGI. The story is very simple at first but gets very confusing and symbolic at the end. It is pretty clear what the director wants to tell with it.

In the end i can say it was just a little view in what we all can do in our own projekts, that we will make.

BSA131 – First Week

In our first session of Digital Filmmaking, everyone introduced himself. We had to tell our names, where we come from and which movie inspired us in the last year. This gave us a good opportunity, to get to know each other.

Basically, the first session gave us a good overview, what this course is about. We read the Handbook together and discus about every single point and why we have to or aren`t allowed to do something.

Assignment 1

In Assignment 1, we will write a Pitch Bible and present it in front of our classmates. With this Pitch Bible, we show our Concept for Assignment 2.

Assignment 2

In Assignment 2, we get the opportunity to shoot a music video for another SIT Student. This music video must respect the artist’s work and fit in his or her music genre. Moreover, we should do an introduction Video, which is run in total 30 seconds and have to contain a dialog.

Assignment 3

Assignment 3 is the reason, I write this Blog, so I can repeat the content from my sessions and can show every week updates about my music video.

After we finished the Handbook, Patrick shows us a few examples, from older projects. And a few were really impressive. Sometimes the look was gorgeous and sometimes the story was pretty heartbreaking or funny. Of course, some videos were better than others, but in the end, you could get the point.

At least I can say I am very exited about this course and hope it ends like it started.
