The thing with the blogs

When I first heard about the weekly blogs I was immediately unmotivated, but at the beginning I stuck to it and wrote these blogs week after week. But the more blog entries I wrote, the more I questioned the concept of blogs.

Why I don’t like the blogs. (Personal opinion)

First of all, I don’t think that you have to be forced to repeat what you learned in a blog entry every week in order to study, and that you have to be checked and graded by the teacher. It’s like in school when you weren’t mature enough to do something for your future on your own. Also the weekly writing down of the work steps you do during the project can be better solved definitely, because there are weeks in which you do more and weeks in which you do less or even nothing at all for this project, since there are many other projects and then pulling something out of your fingers just to write a blog entry that brings nobody anything, I find the wrong solution. Of course, you can also watch any film or video to comment or analyse it, but also here is the wasted time you could spend much better. 

Solution suggestion

I think it makes more sense to write a final report at the end of the semester in which you can write what you have learned and so on.

I’m not a person who likes to take over the post-production or who wants to have a lot to do with After Effects. But it was very nice to think up a story with effects, to plan it, to film it and to edit it at the end. My team and I were all very willing to make something good out of this project and I think that and that succeeded. Being able to work on other projects was a great experience as well, because all ideas and effects are very different.
In the end I didn’t learn much new things, but I was able to make new and valuable experiences.

Je ne suis pas une personne qui aime prendre en charge la post-production ou qui veut avoir beaucoup à faire avec After Effects. Mais c’était très agréable de concevoir une histoire avec des effets, de la planifier, de la filmer et de la monter à la fin. Mon équipe et moi étions tous très désireux de faire quelque chose de bien de ce projet et je pense que cela a réussi. Pouvoir travailler sur d’autres projets a également été une expérience formidable, car toutes les idées et tous les effets sont très différents.
En fin de compte, je n’ai pas appris grand-chose de nouveau, mais j’ai pu faire des expériences nouvelles et précieuses.

2D animation wasn’t my favourite course to be honest, for two simple reasons.
First, I don’t like to paint and that’s almost inevitable with 2D animation.
Second, I don’t like sitting in front of a computer for long and that’s hard to avoid. But these are rather my personal problems and have nothing to do with the course itself. Because it was pretty good, it was fun to think up a small animation film and then implement it. It was fun to watch Filip’s raster on his computer and it was fun to watch all the other projects. In the end I am very happy that I could attend this course.

Animacja 2D nie była moim ulubionym kursem, aby być szczerym, z dwóch prostych powodów.
Po pierwsze, nie lubię malować i jest to prawie nieuniknione w przypadku animacji 2D.
Po drugie, nie lubię długo siedzieć przed komputerem i trudno tego uniknąć. Ale to są raczej moje osobiste problemy i nie mają nic wspólnego z samym kursem. Ponieważ było całkiem nieźle, fajnie było wymyślić mały film animowany, a następnie go wdrożyć. Oglądanie rastrów Filipa na jego komputerze było zabawne, a oglądanie wszystkich innych projektów było zabawne. W końcu jestem bardzo szczęśliwy, że mogłem uczestniczyć w tym kursie.

Me gustó mucho el curso, aunque ya aprendimos mucho en los semestres anteriores, fue muy bueno refrescarlo todo de nuevo. Y también los nuevos aspectos fueron muy agradables, con ejercicios y ejemplos visuales. También la creación de un video musical fue muy emocionante, aunque mucha de la música no era de mi gusto.
Pero lo que más me gustó personalmente fueron las conferencias de los invitados, donde pude experimentar muchas cosas emocionantes y sobre todo nuevas e importantes, desafortunadamente no todo fue genial, hubo una cosa que no me gustó en absoluto, pero más en mi próximo blog.

I liked the course very much, even though we already learned a lot in the previous semesters, it was very good to refresh the whole thing again. And also the new aspects were very nice, with exercises and visual examples. Also creating a music video was very exciting, even though a lot of the music wasn’t my taste.
But what I personally liked very much were the guest lectures, where I could experience a lot of exciting and above all new and important things. Unfortunately not everything was always great, there was one thing that I didn’t like at all, but more about that in my next blog.

Music video
The shooting itself went off without any problems. The team was punctual, we finished in time despite a very long lunch break and at the end of the day we all had a lot of fun. Cutting was the bigger problem because I don’t like sitting in front of the computer for long periods of time. In the end I am somewhat satisfied, but I would have liked to have made some changes in some places.

The feeling, which the video should create, I think is very well met, even if the story is not quite so easy to understand. But that’s not bad, because the video is open for many different interpretations.

Lo sparo è andato via senza problemi. La squadra è stata puntuale, abbiamo finito in tempo nonostante una lunghissima pausa pranzo e alla fine della giornata ci siamo tutti molto divertiti. Il taglio è stato il problema più grande perché non mi piace stare seduto davanti al computer per lunghi periodi di tempo. Alla fine sono un po‘ soddisfatto, ma mi sarebbe piaciuto fare qualche cambiamento in alcuni punti. La sensazione, che il video dovrebbe creare, credo sia molto ben accolta, anche se la storia non è così facile da capire. Ma non è male, perché il video è aperto a diverse interpretazioni.

Last Weekend i helped Filip, Valentin and Nils with their VFX movie as an actor.

On our first shooting day we were really happy because of the Weather and could start the outside shooting. We had no problems and could finished the shoot without any problems that day. On the second day we didn`t had that much luck with the weather and had to make a longer lunch break than we thought but finished shooting before the sun was gone. On the third day we started very late, because we had to shoot at night. At first it worked out very well, but than we wanted to change location and our car broke down, so we had very long break, before we could finish our shooting.

It was pretty much fun to be an actor for this project; the team was amazing and I think they did a very good job.

Last session we practiced a whole filming workflow.

In the beginning we choose who does which part, like cameraman, sound operator, actors and so on. Filip an I volunteer to be the actors and Freddy was the director. He wanted that I apply for a job, but the boss of the company is sexual attracted in me. So, we started to practice the scene once for us, to see if the story and our acting works, then again for the DOP, so she can think about camera angles. After that, they set the light, the camera and the sound. After a few moments we were ready to roll. So, we did one last technical practice and then we started to film.

I think it worked very well, and we created a funny little scene. Of course, there were a few problems at the start but that exercise helped us to see them and learn from them.

At our last session we did a very interesting exercise about tracking in After effects

• Create a new compositing
• Add the motion tracking file to the project
• Add a motion tracking Effect
• Choose a tracking point
• Activate the camera
• Add the file you want on the tracking point
• Copy the motion
• Enjoy the movie

This Exercise was very helpful not just for the VFX project, as well as my music video project
